THE ALTAR AREA
The altar area before the renovations was merely a low ceiling portion flanked by the two room doors.
This is what the altar area looks like now:
The altar flanking the guest room and the second room is a deliberate central feature of the living area. It is embellished with icons and little crosses from all around the world to represent the catholicity of faith in Christ. Here, we pray to God and also seek the constant intercessions of those who are already with Him to guide us in our earthly life. Crowning the altar is a large icon of the Trinity to remind us that ultimate joy and fulfilment in our existence comes from communion with the Trinitarian God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. |
This altar also represents the Church Victorious, that is, our Fathers in the faith who have lived their earthly lives in fidelity to the Gospel and are now experiencing Beatitude on the other side of life.
Right across from this altar is the shelf that represents the Pilgrim Church on earth. The facing each other of the altar (representing the Church Victorious) and the shelf (representing the Pilgrim Church) reminds us that there is only one Church, that both the Pilgrim Church and the Church Victorious are part of the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church founded by Jesus Christ and wedded to Himself. |
